Woman accused of defrauding Rochester charities, businesses with gift cards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A Rochester woman has been arrested and accused of defrauding Rochester area businesses and charities out of over $88,000.
According to prosecutors, 43-year-old Jessica Stadt was a suspect in a gift card fraud scheme investigation that began in March of 2023. Persecuto
rs said Stadt allegedly acquired physical copies of gift cards fraudulently from and on behalf of Rochester area companies and implied that they would be used for disadvantaged children and communities.
Prosecutors said instead of using the gift cards for charity, Stadt sold the cards to several different individuals using Facebook Messenger.
In total, prosecutors listed 607 gift cards sold with a total combined loss of $88,882 in loss to Wegmans, Youth Advocate Programs, and other nor for profit organizations.
