SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A new survey by Careerminds, a global outplacement and career development firm, found that benefits like retirement contributions, paid time off, and family-friendly policies can be just as crucial in keeping workers satisfied.
Polling 3,023 employees, the survey ranke
d the top employers in Massachusetts based on the perks and benefits that make them the most desirable workplaces. MassMutual, the Springfield-based financial services giant, topped the list, followed by Biogen and HubSpot in second and third place, respectively.
MassMutual earned the top spot in Massachusetts thanks to its generous retirement benefits. Unlike many employers that rely solely on 401(k) matching, MassMutual automatically contributes 10% of an employee’s salary into a retirement plan, regardless of whether the employee contributes. This, combined with a rare cash-balance pension plan, provides workers with long-term financial security that is increasingly hard to find.
Additionally, new hires immediately receive this 10% retirement boost along with a $1,250 annual wellness stipend, which can be used for gym memberships, wellness apps, or financial planning tools. MassMutual also offers student loan assistance and paid leave benefits, blending traditional financial stability with modern perks.
Ranking second, Cambridge-based Biogen has distinguished itself with industry-leading family and caregiver benefits. Employees receive 16 weeks of fully paid maternity and paternity leave, along with additional paid leave to care for ill family members. The company also provides robust fertility treatment and adoption assistance programs.
Regularly featured on Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies, Biogen’s benefits reflect a deep commitment to work-life balance, helping employees focus on both their personal and professional responsibilities.
At third place, HubSpot, the Cambridge-based software giant, has set itself apart with progressive time-off policies. Employees enjoy unlimited vacation days, a company-wide “Global Week of Rest” every July, and, after five years of service, a fully paid four-week sabbatical with a $5,000 bonus.
HubSpot’s emphasis on mental health support and flexibility has consistently earned it a top ranking on Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work. The company’s trust-based culture allows employees to recharge and avoid burnout, proving that flexibility can drive both satisfaction and productivity.
Beyond Massachusetts, the Careerminds survey also identified the top companies nationwide based on perks and benefits:
Google (California)Google’s benefits are legendary, from free gourmet meals, nap pods, and on-site fitness centers to extended paid parental leave and fertility assistance. The company has built a reputation for workplace luxury and employee well-being, ensuring its workforce remains productive and engaged.
