New details on park shooting in Las Cruces that left 3 people dead, 15 injured

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) — Chaos erupted during an unsanctioned car meet at Young Park in Las Cruces on Friday, March 21. Andrew Madrid, Jason Gomez and Dominick Estrada were killed in the mass shooting that left 15 people injured.

urs, Las Cruces police arrested a man and three juveniles for the shooting, but they only named twenty-year-old Tomas Rivas. Federal search warrants have now revealed the names of those juvenile suspects — Gustavo Dominguez, Josiah Ontiveros and Rivas' brother Nathan. Witnesses identified all four as the shooters.
"So the four that have been arrested are all a part of the same group," said Las Cruces Police Department Chief Jeremy Story. "Meaning they are friends, family."
One eyewitness even told investigators he saw Ontiveros "walk down" one of the victims, standing over him and shooting him execution-style. Investigators believe it all stemmed from ongoing issues between two groups, although it's unclear if the second group also opened fire, or what the dispute was about.
"We have different statements," said the Las Cruces Police Department. "Several of them are corroborated, but I don't want to speculate for sure because we don't know exactly what it was. It could be a combination of different things we've heard from witnesses."
The Rivas Brothers were arrested the next day, and the documents state that Nathan Rivas tried to get rid of the gun. Investigators also found three guns in a trash can at an apartment complex where the brothers were seen.
Las Cruces police said this week that they have not heard about any credible threats of retaliation over the shooting. ...read more read less
