NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — If you're planning to drive over the Newport Pell Bridge this weekend, you may want to give yourself some extra time.
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) said there will be temporary lane closures and traffic pattern changes on the bridge.
Eastbound
traffic on the bridge has already been reduced to a single lane.
Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, crews will shift the median barrier so there will be only one lane of traffic in both directions. These changes will be in effect until 6 a.m. Monday.
RITBA is advising drivers to use caution and expect delays.
"We understand that this project may result in delays, and we appreciate drivers' patience," RITBA Executive Director Lori Caron Silveira said in a press release. "We apologize for any inconvenience and are grateful for everyone's cooperation as we complete this work."
