Hillcrest— Frenchy’s, a new wine-focused bistro, is now open in Hillcrest. While it settles into the neighborhood, the restaurant is offering a three-course tasting menu for $75 featuring dishes like French onion soup, steak frites, and macarons. A wine pairing is available for $25 more. Dishes and wine are also available to order a la carte. 142 W. University Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103.
North Park— Tapas pair with vinyl records at North Park’s new restaurant, Nomade. Open for all-day service and until 1 a.m. on the weekends, Nomade offers an easygoing menu of brunch bites and coffee in the morning, before flipping to a menu of dinner and cocktails at night. If there during the day, try the quiche or tortilla Espanola; for dinner options, order steak frites, some olives, and a cocktail to make a night out of it. 3027 Adams Avenue, San Diego, CA 92116.
South Park— Bock, a new South Park neighborhood pub, has landed in the former Hamilton’s Tavern space. It offers more than 30 beers on tap, including local IPAs, German-inspired California beers, and more. Wine curated by Vino Carta is also available. Biersal will handle the kitchen, serving German-inspired drinking snacks like currywurst and pretzels. 1521 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92102.
El Cajon— El Culichi, a new casual Mexican restaurant in El Cajon, opened in late March. The restaurant specializes in goat and beef birria, and cabeza. Try the birria de chivo, made with goat and served with fresh tortillas, or birria de cabeza de res. Round out meals here with comforting bowls of menudo, crispy tacos dorados, and Sinaloa-style tostadas. 773 Greenfield Drive, El Cajon, CA 92021.
Mira Mesa— Head to Mira Mesa’s new Vietnamese restaurant, Saigon Corner, for bánh cuốn nhân thịt (steamed rice roll with ground pork), alongside other specialties. Mi đuôi bò (oxtail soup) comes swimming with noodles, while cơm tấm (broken rice) comes with a choice of pork, beef, or grilled chicken. 10550 Camino Ruiz, San Diego, CA 92126.
