INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Transportation is planning to implement lane and ramp closures on Interstate 70 near the south split in Indianapolis.
According to a press release, the closures will allow crews to inspect a portion of I-70 that crosses over the White River. The bridge I
NDOT will be inspecting is located near mile marker 79 — which is just west of the I-65/I-70 split.
INDOT expects crews to begin their inspection of the bridge on April 7. Daily lane and ramp closures will subsequently be implemented to allow workers to safely examine the roadway. INDOT anticipates closures to be in place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Crews will close lanes and ramps on I-70 one direction at a time. INDOT plans to close westbound lanes first and eastbound lanes second each day.
The ramps from I-70 to West Street and Capitol Avenue will be closed during westbound inspections only.
INDOT indicated that inspections of I-70's bridge over the White River occur biennially. This year's inspections could be pushed to the week of April 14 if crews encounter inclement weather the week of April 7.
INDOT is encouraging all motorists who drive on I-70 during the inspections to slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free. ...read more read less
