LaMelo Ball out for season, will undergo ankle surgery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season and will undergo surgery on his right ankle, the team announced Friday.
Ball, 23, will also undergo a minor procedure on his right wrist.
Ball has dealt with numerous injuries throughout the season
, resulting in him missing 25 games so far this year.
The team said Ball is expected to make a full recovery and have a complete off-season regiment of work. He is expected to resume basketball activity in four to six weeks.
The decision to address both injuries ends Ball’s 2024-25 season. He averaged 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game across 47 outings.
The Hornets are currently 18-54, the third-worst record in the NBA, with 10 games remaining this season. This will be the ninth-straight year the Hornets have not made the playoffs.
Ball is under contract with the Hornets through the 2028-29 season.
