(KTLA) – One of the more dangerous and destructive police pursuits in recent memory unfolded on live television in south Los Angeles County Friday afternoon, involving a driver in a white stolen pickup truck.
The chase began around 2:40 p.m. in South Los Angeles, according to the L.A. Police De
partment.
The suspect collided with several vehicles and narrowly missed hitting pedestrians as he fled LAPD and California Highway Patrol officers through Whittier, Downey, Norwalk and Lakewood at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour at times.
In Long Beach, Sky5 footage showed the desperate driver sideswiping several cars and then running a red light at the intersection of E. 7th Street and Termino Avenue. That's where the truck slammed into two other vehicles and then rolled into a parking lot next to a Sherwin-Williams paint store.
