(KRON) -- Five Bay Area Kohl's locations are set to close this weekend. Kohl's announced the closures earlier this year as part of an initiative to close 27 underperforming stores along with its San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center in May.
Workers at the stores that will close have been off
ered a "competitive severance package" or a chance to apply to other open positions at other Kohl's location, according to a press release announcing the closures.

"We always take these decisions very seriously," said Kohl's CEO Tom Kingsbury. "As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams."
Bay Area Kohl's locations that are closing:
Fremont -- 43782 Christy Street
Mountain View -- 350 Showers Drive
Napa -- 1116 1st Street
Pleasanton -- 4525 Rosewood Drive
San Rafael -- 5010 Northgate Drive
Statewide, a total of 10 California Kohl's are set to close with stores in Balboa (San Diego), Sacramento, Encinitas, San Luis Obispo, and Westchester also slated to shutter.
Following the closures, there will still be several Kohl's stores throughout the Bay Area with locations in Alameda, San Leandro, Colma, Vallejo, Brentwood, Santa Rosa, and Campbell, among other places, unaffected by the closures. ...read more read less
