Popcorn ceiling is the worst invention behind laminate counters. Devin Vassell and Stephon Castle led the Spurs with 22 points apiece as the good guys did all they could to give the top-seeded Cavaliers all they could handle in the loss. Castle also
notched a double-double with 10 rebounds and became the first rookie this season to score 1,000 points.
At this point, calling Castle a rookie is just for ceremony. The young man continues to shine and provide a beaming light of hope for the future. Area 51 forever!
These plays embodied everything about Castle that you need to know: hustle, athleticism, decisive moves to the basket, uncanny basketball instincts, and an endless motor. I have more platitudes, but my coffee is getting cold if I don’t stop heaping praise on our favorite rookie.

Jeremy Sochan is just 21-years-old. Let that sink in for a minute while I sip my HEB whole bean Bavarian Hazelnut cup of coffee. Dude is still young, and in a season of nagging injuries, it seems like his breakout season has been delayed for the moment.
Smarter people than me will tell you he might be playing out of position. He’s too good IMO to be playing off the bench, but it has been a weird, unlucky with injuries season—and Sochan is the prototypical long-winged wing player that all teams covet. The former Baylor Bear might just need some time to brew—you just can’t rush a good brew.

If Victor Wembanyama represents the ceiling for the San Antonio Spurs, then Stephon Castle is the elegant, discerning texture (never popcorn ceiling treatments!) that really ties the room together. I cannot get over how smooth and decisive his game is. I mention maturity a lot because it’s rare seeing a rookie adapt to the league so quickly and seems to know exactly what he wants to do on the court. If you told me Castle played all four years at UConn before entering the NBA draft, I would not doubt you.

Fans waiting for Jeremy Sochan to break out are standing in line behind fans waiting for Devin Vassell to break out. Vassell, for his part, is making the most of his opportunities with 4 straight 20+ games, averaging 20.4 points in his last 10 games. Steady, but not spectacular: from a team-building standpoint, we’ll take steady—availability is the best ability.

In this play, Vassell unceremoniously steals the opposing player’s cookies like my dog Luna Lovegood unassumingly just walks by and yoinks a cookie out of my hands if I’m distracted or busy asking my daughter to bring me milk for my soon-to-be-yoinked cookies.
