MSPD: Man found guilty on several sex assault charges

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The Manitou Springs Police Department (MSPD) said a jury has found James Walter, a resident of Manitou Springs, guilty on multiple felony charges related to sexual assault.
According to Manitou Springs spokesperson Cassandra Hessel, Walter was arrested in 2024. At tha
t time, the Colorado Springs Police Department and the Monument Police Department both assisted in the arrest. Walter was arrested on felony charges, including Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (victim 15-18), two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (victim under 15), Pattern of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust, and Second Degree Assault.
According to court documents, Walter pled not guilty to all counts.
On Wednesday, March 26, a jury found Walter guilty on various charges, including Sexual Assault on a Child by one in a Position of Trust, Sexual Assault - Submission by Force, and Aggravated Incest.
“This verdict reflects the dedication and tireless work of our investigators,” said Chief Bill Otto, Manitou Springs Police Department. “We remain committed to seeking justice for victims and ensuring the safety of our community.”
MSPD said that following the verdict, Walter was "immediately remanded into custody."
Sentencing is scheduled for June 26, 2025, with the El Paso County Judicial Branch. ...read more read less
