Baton Rouge tire shop owner killed in Central crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — William "Bill" Simon, the 88-year-old owner of a Baton Rouge tire and auto care shop, was struck and killed by a car early Friday morning.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Gurney Road in Central. Th
e driver remained on the scene. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office identified Simon as the victim.
Authorities have not yet released further details, and the incident remains under investigation. This is a developing story.
Longtime Baton Rouge business owner
Simon was the owner and president of Simple Simon, a tire and auto care shop on Airline Highway. People may recognize him from the local TV commercials he's made over the years.
According to the business' website, Simon now makes over $5 million in sales a year after he started the business in 1966 with $1,500. He was involved in the community, formerly serving as a district governor for the East Baton Rouge Lions Club and contributing to breast cancer awareness fundraisers.
