Virginia woman pleads guilty to mother's murder; son also charged

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A woman has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother in Norfolk on Thursday.
Heather Cummings and her son were charged in the homicide of Heather's mother at a Norfolk senior living home after the victim was found unresponsive on June 30, 2024.

Norfolk police responded to the Commonwealth Senior Living on Poplar Hall Drive for an unresponsive patient, 81-year-old Cleo Loizides. Her daughter, Heather Cummings and grandson, Cliffton Cummings, were charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Heather pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and her charge for conspiracy to commit second-degree was nolle prossed. Her sentencing is set for June 27.
Clifton has requested a bench trial scheduled for Aug. 4.
Police said the suspects provided a confession before they were charged.
During her confession, Heather stated she assisted her son by holding Loizides down by her hands while telling her, “just let go, it’s for the best,” as her son used a strap from his bag to strangle the victim, according to previous coverage.
