ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A man was arrested after neglecting his elderly mother, which resulted in her death, deputies said. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said that back in January, they had received a call from a family member of the victim. When deputies arrived to the home on Ba gwell Road, in Liberty, they found a woman lying on the floor, unconscious. The woman, identified as 86-year-old Carolyn Wemett, was transported to the hospital and died shortly after. Detectives found that the victim's son, 60-year-old Bret Wemett, lived with his mother and had discovered her on the floor a day prior. He did not attempt to assist her or call for assistance, deputies said. Deputies said they are working with the Anderson County Coroner's Office to determine the exact cause of death. The Anderson County Coroner's Office declared the cause of death was Wemett's failure to render aid to the victim. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide. Wemett was charged with abuse or neglect resulting in the death or harm to a vulnerable adult. He remains in the Anderson County Detention Center. ...read more read less
