PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — High pressure is slipping offshore today, and on the western side of that high, a steady, southwest flow is going to bring dramatic changes. We have scattered clouds across the Piedmont this morning with mild temperatures in the mid-50s.  Skies are expected to c lear nicely by late morning, and temperatures will warm up to the upper-70s later this afternoon. (To put that in perspective, the average high for today is 65°.) Clouds begin to increase overnight and lows will be mild, in the upper-50s. Though we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies on Saturday, we won't have any rain as forecast. Highs return to the upper-70s Saturday afternoon. A powerful storm system will be approaching the western Appalachians on Sunday, pushing rain chances up to 50%. Highs on Sunday will stay mild, in the mid-70s. By Monday, we will face a severe weather risk as the storm system works its way across the East Coast. The Preliminary Severe Weather Outlook for Monday places all of NC at a Level 2/Slight Risk of severe weather. The timing of the storms - for now - looks like an afternoon event in the FOX8 viewing area.  Highs will stay in the mid-70s. We are still four days out, so there will be more certainty in the forecast in the days to come.  Please stay tuned to FOX8 for updates. If you're looking for a suitable day to spend outside next week, Tuesday may be the best one!  We are anticipating mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper-60s. It won't take long for rain to return to the forecast, though.
