CR North softball runs past Neshaminy for 51 start
Mar 27, 2025
LANGHORNE, Pa. — There’s been a real resurgence of softball that was once played on a very high level in the Council Rock School District and the best part is it’s not just confined to one of its two high schools.
Very much joining the Rock South party is Council Rock North, which is off to it
s first 5-1 start in memory after aggressively running the bases at will in an 8-2 victory over Neshaminy on Thursday.
You can just feel the momentum and confidence growing with a Rock North team that is still on the young side with just one senior. While this would suggest even better days are still ahead, you really have to like what’s going on with the Indians right now.
“We are young in terms of having all these underclassmen, but we are not young in terms of experience,” said coach Susan Yee. “We threw our juniors into the fire when they were freshmen and you can see it paying off.”
Rock North actually threw freshman Mia Miskumo against Neshaminy (1-4) and she made the most of her second start of the season with a five-hitter and seven strikeouts. She’s not overwhelmingly fast, but her control is good and she’s not hesitant to throw an effective change-up.
“She has ice in her veins,” said Yee.
What Kiskurno (two hits) also did is contribute at the plate as Rock North collected 14 hits against multiple Neshaminy pitchers. Leading the way was speedy junior lead-off batter Kayla Ripper. She “only” had two hits in this one, but she’s been absolutely on fire and is hitting .600 for the season.
In addition to have a great last name for a productive batter, Ripper is clearly a quality player.
After Neshaminy scored in the first on an RBI single by Amirah Coppola-Miller, Rock North came back with three in the top of the fourth. Kiskurno and Olivia Schlindwein both RBI singles in this inning against Neshaminy starter Adddie Pennisi,
It was in the sixth where the Indians blew the game wide open with a five-run outburst. It started with walks to Kiskurno and Ripper. From there, Chelsea Seiler slammed a two-run double, and Sierra Klein and Zoe Hardy followed with run-scoring doubles. Katie Wilkoski got the final run home with a single.
Neshaminy did make a little noise in the seventh when Morgan Leonhauser led off with a double, but Kiskurno rebounded to finish up strong with two strikeouts.
“It was long before I got here,” said Yee when asked when the last time Rock North started a season with a 5-1 record. “We’ve just been trying to take it one step at a time. First we wanted to make the playoffs. The next step was to get a home playoff game. Now the goal is to win in the playoffs.
“Our players are working very hard to get better. We have 12 players who would start for just about any team in our area. It’s very rewarding to watch them grow.”
