ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With Richard Pitino leaving New Mexico to become the next head coach at Xavier, UNM is now searching for his replacement. KRQE Sports has learned some of the candidates, per multiple sources. Isaac Chew - Associate head coach at UNM under Pitino. Previous stops inclu de Missouri, Marquette, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, GCU and Murray State. Chew has already interviewed for the position. James Borrego - Former Charlotte Hornets head coach and current assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans. A graduate of Albuquerque Academy. Craig Smith - Former head coach at Utah, Utah State, South Dakota and Mayville State. With Utah State, Smith led the Aggies to a Mountain West regular season title (2019) and two conference tournament titles (2019, 2020). He was named the Mountain West coach of the year in 2019. Tim Miles - Current head coach at San Jose State. Has also served as the head coach at Nebraska, Colorado State, North Dakota State, Southwest Minnesota State ad Mayville State. ...read more read less
