NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An alert sent out by Wintergreen alerted residents to an active wildfire near the locality on Thursday afternoon. The alert was sent out on Thursday, March 27, and reported an active 10-acre wildfire located around five miles north of Wintergreen, and east of the Humpba ck Rocks hiking area near milepost seven of the Blue Ridge Parkway. At 4:15 p.m., the fire spanned 3 acres of land across Nelson and Augusta counties and was uncontained. Multiple crews were on site, according to officials, and helicopter support was requested as a result of the area's steep terrain. At around 10 p.m., Wintergreen alerted that the fire had been contained, with local firefighting crews to be in service. The National Park Service will also continue to monitor the fire.
