FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Over 150 residents attended McMillen Park Community Center Thursday night, with hopes to hear updates on current projects and suggest ideas for more improvements for the city's southeast side.
The Southeast Strategy Update Open House, hosted at McMillen Park Community C
enter, offered a chance for residents to find out what the next steps are for the project, which has been years in the making.
"It's always important to reach out to the community, look at ways we can improve quality of life, improve infrastructure and bring in more economic development and housing," Russell Garriott, City Planner, with City of Fort Wayne Community Development, said.
The Southeast Strategy began in 2020 when local leaders, residents and an advisory committee began working with the City of Fort Wayne to revitalize the area. It was then formally adopted in 2021 as a part of the All in Allen plan. Since its adoption, just over $2 billion has been put into the area through parks, road, business, housing and the creation of the Google Data Center.
The latest addition, announced nearly a week ago, was the Oxford Streetscape. The project is set to transform the street between Lafayette Street and South Anthony Boulevard by enhancing safety, accessibility, and neighborhood identity through improvements.
