FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - If there isn't a library nearby, don't worry, as long as someone is from California and has an email address and internet connection, they can now have access to over 300,000 e-books and audiobooks.
According to the California State Library, those with an email
address and internet connection can now access the state's bookshelf in just a few clicks.
State library officials say that previously, readers had to log in through a participating library to get all the e-books available on the bookshelf.
California State Librarian Greg Lucas says that with just a few clicks, any Californian will always have the convenience of being connected with the new virtual library bookshelf.
Officials with the state's library say the eBookshelf is in partnership with the Palace Project.
The five steps to access California's Bookshelf and to create a virtual library card are listed below:
Download the free Palace app on an iOS or Android device.
Inside the app, use the “find my library” search function to find “California’s Bookshelf.”
Browse the collection until a title is found and either "get" or "reserve " the e-book ofthat book.
Choose the option to create a virtual card and then complete the details in the form. The app’s permission to use the specific location will need to be enabled just once to create the library card.
Look at emails for the library card number. Borrow items using that number and the new password.
If a resident logs in through the Palace app through any local library, they'll have access to all the materials in the state's bookshelf and all the e-books and audiobooks in the local library's collection. ...read more read less
