EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — In 1961, Malcolm X stopped in Providence while he was traveling around the country to help make sure local Muslims were able to get to an annual convention held in Chicago.
The civil rights icon was a Muslim minister and activist who spoke about empowering Black p
eople. He was assassinated at the age of 39 in New York City on Feb. 21, 1965.
While in Rhode Island, Malcolm X sat down with WPRI 12 for an interview.
