Man arrested in Boutte on charges of drug, gun crimes

BOUTTE, La. (WGNO) — A man from Calcasieu Parish was arrested in Boutte on March 25 after a traffic stop turned to a drug and gun investigation.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies performed the s
top on Paul Maillard Road at Tinney Street due to a reported traffic violation committed by a black Nissan Altima.

Deputies say during the stop, they spoke with 30-year-old Briste Williams, of DeQuincy, and smelled marijuana inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the alleged discovery of the following items:
914 grams of marijuana.
14 grams of cocaine.
Seven tapentadol pills.
One ZEV 9mm handgun.
27 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
One Smith and Wesson .223 caliber AR Pistol.
10 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition.

Williams was arrested and faces the following charges:
Possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a CDS.
Possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Possession of firearm/carrying concealed by a convicted felon (2 counts.)
Prohibited acts-schedule II.
Taking contraband to/from a penal institutions-prohibited.
Disobeying traffic control signals.
Driver must be licensed.
Fugitive warrant.
