Man faces 2 years in assault of developmentally disabled man

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man accused of assaulting a developmentally disabled man who he thought was taking too long to make purchase at a convenience store has pleaded no contest to a felony assault charge, according to court records.

District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Daniela Gonzaga said he faces two years in prison.
The assault happened on March 1, 2023, on Ming Avenue. Figueroa yelled at the man inside the store, believing he was holding up the line while buying an energy drink, according to court documents.
Figueroa is heard on surveillance video telling the victim: “Hey dude, why don’t you hurry up, there’s a f——- line back here!”
The victim responded with an expletive, and Figueroa pushed him out of the store and attacked him in the parking lot, according to the documents.
Investigators described the victim as having the mental capacity of a 10- to 12-year-old and a medical condition that induces seizures. Family said he recovered from his injuries. ...read more read less
