2025 Bakersfield Marathon: Road closures on race day
Mar 27, 2025
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The 8th annual Bakersfield Marathon on Sunday will bring thousands of runners to city streets which will prompt a series of street closures throughout the morning and early afternoon.
The marathon takes place Sunday, March 30. The marathon events begin and end at th
e Kern County Museum on Chester Avenue. The full marathon begins at 7:02 a.m. with other races beginning a little after.
Officials said road closures will be in place before the marathon begins.

The road closures are temporary and will be lifted as the last runners progress through intersections along the city course. Bakersfield police officers and marathon officials will help residents cross the course during any gaps between runners on the course.
Runners will begin at the Kern County Museum and head east. Clean-up crews and and safety teams will follow the final runner and roads will begin to reopen. Officials said streets near the Kern County Museum may reopen as soon as 8 a.m.
Marathon officials say one way to approximate reopening times for closures is to use a 15-minute per mile pace. So, if you're at Panorama Drive and Mount Vernon Avenue -- the marathon's fourth mile mark -- the intersection should open at around 8 a.m. (15 mins x 4 miles, or an hour after the start of the race).
All roads are expected to be fully reopened by 2:30 p.m., according to organizers.
