Fairport Harbor Public Library hosts conversation with cartoonist

As part of its ongoing Casual Conversations series, The Fairport Harbor Public Library will host “So You Want to Be a Cartoonist,” a presentation by Len Thomas drawing on his 20-plus years of experience as a published cartoonist.
The talk will take place from 11 a.m. to noon April 5 in the libra
ry, 335 Vine St., and is free and open to the general public. Seating is limited so reservations are suggested. For more information, call the library at 440-354-8191.
Thomas will focus on the history of cartoons, types of cartoons, materials required for drawing cartoons, suggestions for generating ideas and some examples of good and bad cartooning, according to a news release. He will also cover career opportunities in cartooning, historical pay for the profession and provide a list of publishers for any aspiring cartoonists in the audience.
A resident of Fairport Harbor, Leonard Aloysius Thomas II, aka “Aloysius,” has been drawing for 79 years. His art education began with a “Draw Me” correspondence course followed by coursework at the Cooper School of Art and Hiram College where he minored in art, according to the release.
He is currently teaching two art classes at the Fairport Senior Center and paints portraits, landscapes and still life compositions in his home studio. ...read more read less
