ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Drivers who use I-490 in Perinton are warned of some upcoming lane closures. According to the NYS Department of Transportation, the I-490 bridges over the Erie Canal and Kreag Road will see long-term lane closures. Right at the start of April, I-490 westbound will be reduced to one lane, and the westbound interstate on-ramp at Exit 27 will be closed. On April 7, I-490 Eastbound will be tentatively scheduled to one lane. This will depend on the work schedule and the weather. The DOT says drivers going through this work zone will be directed to perform a late merge: "Drivers should use both open lanes until reaching the merge point. Then, as two lanes merge into one lane, they will take turns entering the work zone, alternating in a zipper fashion into the open lane, maximizing traffic flow." ...read more read less
