Isolated rain and thunderstorms are continuing across southern New Mexico this afternoon. High temperatures are staying on the warm side.
A low pressure system has centered itself of the southeastern region of New Mexico this afternoon. The result of the storm system is isolated rain and thunder
storms through the evening. The bulk of the rain will be arriving tonight. Additionally, the low pressure is pulling up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. This moisture is improving chances of the rain reaching the ground across the southeast.
The rest of the state this afternoon can expect warm temperatures and partly cloudy skies. Well above seasonably average high temperatures are present. Temperatures are expected to be even warmer tomorrow.
The low pressure will move out of the state tonight taking most of the rain with it. Tomorrow will see dry, sunny, and warm conditions. Additionally, southwesterly flow will begin to strengthen at the surface. Resulting is gusts upwards of 35 mph. These conditions have lead to an elevated fire risk for much of New Mexico Friday afternoon.
Friday night and into Saturday a Pacific cold front will move through western and central New Mexico. This front will marginally cool off temperatures over the weekend. However, even cooled off, the high temperatures are still trending to the warm side through early next week. ...read more read less
