On Wednesday, he received two years on home monitoring followed by an additional year and 180 days (a little under 6 months) on probation. Per the court records, Castillo is ordered to pay $605 for restitution.
Castillo's sentencing stems from what was initially reported as a harassment and stalking incident in the 12800 block of Old Meridian Street in Carmel. As previously reported, Castillo had been pounding incessantly on a victim's apartment door, according to a 911 call made at 7:48 p.m.
The Carmel Police Department received word that Castillo was driving a blue sports car with New Mexico plates. This vehicle was found on the third floor of the apartment's parking garage, and an officer parked next to it. Castillo was inside the vehicle, CPD said.
Yet Castillo refused to exit the car when police gave him orders, even after another officer arrived. Per CPD, Castillo then drove forward and hit one of CPD's police SUVs.
This caused an officer to fire shots at Castillo's car. CPD said officers fired shots at least three times. Castillo was pulled from the vehicle when officers discovered he had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
A CPD officer also received a cut to the hand and was treated at the hospital.
In addition to pounding on the victim's door, Castillo had reportedly sent the victim threatening phone messages. As stated in court documents, this included texts such as "I can't wait till you die" and over 190 phone calls in a four-hour timespan. ...read more read less
