Serious water main break on near north side floods several streets; boil advisory in effect

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A large water main break on the near north side of Indianapolis has disrupted flooded streets for several blocks and trapped vehicles.
The break happened sometime around 10 a.m. in the intersection of East 22nd Street and Dr. Andrew J. Brown Ave. It wasn’t clear wh
at caused the break.
News 8 photographer Kevin Stinson was on the scene and said there were significant amounts of water covering the road and trapping cars. Some vehicles were seen submerged up to their windows.
Drivers were asked to seek alternate routes. Bus routes may also be impacted.
Citizens Energy confirmed that this water main break is impacting customers on the east and northeast sides of Indy.
“Citizens crews are responding to a water main break in the area of 22nd Street and Dr. Andrew J Brown Avenue impacting customers on the east side of Indianapolis. The Contact Center is receiving many calls about this outage, and Citizens will release further details to news media and on Citizens social media accounts as they become available,” a spokesperson with Citizens said.
Citizens has placed a boil advisory for areas surrounding the main break for until noon Saturday. Below is a map of impacted areas.
