Felipa's Flix: 'Snow White' is a flop; high hopes for 'One Battle After Another'

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The Hollywood season immediately following the Academy Awards is generally slow, but there is always great anticipation for summer movies. For spring, the talk of the town is "Snow White," which was a flop at the box office, and Critics Choice reviewer Felipa Solis said she
can see why.
Felipa's Review of "Snow White"
Hollywood loves to create and re-create sequels, prequels, re-makes, etc., and most of them fall flat. "The Lion King," worked, sort of, and all of the "Star is Born," films were box office successes, but as a rule, classics should not be touched. When Walt Disney began producing full-length animated features, characters were simply unforgettable, and all became the stars of Disneyland. Although many of the storylines have become outdated and some are now considered inappropriate, they should be left alone, and new creators should emerge with ways to reach children, like for example, "Inside/Out 2." Snow White first emerged 88 years ago as a full-color animated full-length feature. Yes, the Wicked Queen was aiming for Snow White's demise, but in the end, love conquers all. Not in 2025, where Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler have such bad film chemistry, that their hatred appears real, and with all of the bad publicity surrounding this film, one cannot expect to sit and enjoy it. Grimm Fairy tales are really grim here, with no balance or cohesiveness. The cinematography seems truly unbelievable, although Rachel Zegler is talented in the vocal department, but it's just uncomfortable to watch. When I said to myself: "Is the Prince stalking Snow White?" I knew I read too much pre-publicity.
Felipa's Review of "One Battle After Another"
Will Texas be the new Hollywood? The Texas Legislature is looking at the possibilities and El Paso could be a new mecca of film. Last summer, ( I'm not sure how I missed their calls), Leonardo Di Caprio, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn spent weeks filming in Downtown El Paso thanks to the Direction of the great Paul Thomas Anderson, who created such classics as "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia," and "There Will Be Blood." Now, the official trailer for "One Battle After Another," has been released, and the film is targeted for theaters in late September. It's the story of ex-revolutionaries who have to reunite to fight the evil enemy to rescue a daughter. The film is being released through Warner Brothers and interestingly, the film was shot in 35 mm using Vista Vision. The same process Anderson used for "Licorice Pizza." Stay tuned for Leo and company and stay tuned to El Paso turning into a filmmaking destination. ...read more read less
