Gail Borden Public Library screening ‘Wicked’ movie on April 3
The Gail Borden Public Library will present a free screening of the 2024 blockbuster musical film “Wicked” from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Studio 270 at the main branch at 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.
The event is designed
for students in grades 7 through 12, according to the library’s website. Candy, cool buttons and crafts will be part of the activities. No registration is required.

Elgin Coin Club semiannual show to be held Sunday at Holiday Inn
The Elgin Coin Club will be hosting its semiannual coin show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at the Holiday Inn & Suites Chicago Northwest, 495 Airport Road, Elgin.
Coins from the United States, Canada and other nations will be featured in addition to supplies, tokens, banknotes, ancient, gold, silver and copper coins and other items available to be bought and sold, according to the club’s website. There will also be an auction geared to children who collect coins and hourly door prizes awarded.
General admission is $2 for entry at 9 a.m. or $20 for those who would like enter at 8 a.m.

ECC instructor named association’s educator of the year
The Illinois Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association has named Ami Kalisek, a massage therapy adjunct faculty member at Elgin Community College, as its Educator of the Year.
Kasilek received the honor at the association’s annual board meeting March 15,in Springfield, according to an ECC social media post.
Kasilek has been teaching at ECC for more than 20 years, starting when the college launched its massage therapy program, according to the college website. She has been a massage therapist since 1989.
Fox River library listrict announces new executive director
Kristi Howe has been named the new executive director of the Fox River Valley Public Library District .
Howe, currently executive director of the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute, Indiana, will assume the job on May 19, according to a news release. Howe has previously worked at libraries in Illinois and Wisconsin and is completing her master’s degree in library and information science from Dominican University in River Forest.
“I am excited to lead this dedicated team and continue the library’s mission of serving the community,” Howe said in the release.
The Fox River district has library branches in East Dundee and West Dundee. It serves more than 70,000 residents in an area that includes Carpentersville, East Dundee, Gilberts, Sleepy Hollow, West Dundee and parts of Algonquin, Barrington Hills and Elgin.
