NMSU breaks ground on expansion for Aggie Innovation Space

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – Students and faculty at New Mexico State University are one step closer to getting their hands on some new tech. On Wednesday, organizers broke ground on the expansion of the Aggie Innovation Space, which will house two metal 3D printers, each worth $250,000.

The printers will be geared toward research and creating prototypes. College leadership said this technology puts NMSU well above other universities with its ability to print anything up to the size of a six-inch cube made up of aluminum or stainless steel. "So what this brings is that capacity for researchers to create or actually to advance their research using this capability. Before, you're limited to polymer printing. And again, that's very restrictive," said Gabe Garcia, Director, Aggie Innovation Space.
NMSU received $3 million in GO bonds and the remaining funding from New Mexico Mutual. ...read more read less
