Upon arrival, they found a severely malnourished female poodle-mix dog, approximately two years old, in the garage area of the residence. The dog was surrendered to the Dodge County Humane Society.
The dog was taken to a local veterinary clinic, where additional resources were used to attempt to revive it. However, the dog died in the early morning hours of March 7, 2025.
A forensic necropsy revealed that the dog was severely emaciated and died from chronic starvation.
On March 25, 2025, deputies returned to the residence and arrested 47-year-old James Dettloff and 31-year-old Tashina Dettloff on charges of animal cruelty.
“The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Dodge County Humane Society for their continued collaboration and service to Dodge County,” a release stated. “Additionally, we would like to thank the veterinary service providers for their assistance and care during this investigation.”
James Dettloff appeared in court Wednesday, where a $1,000 signature bond was set. He is scheduled for a review hearing on April 23 and a preliminary hearing on May 1.
