DA: Woman guilty in Fresno County's first fentanylmurder case

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A 24-year-old woman who was the first person in Fresno County to be charged with murder related to fentanyl in 2022 was found guilty on Wednesday, the county's district attorney announced.
The DA's office says that on March 26, a jury convicted 24-year-old Cassidy Ma
rie Gonzalez of second-degree murder in the fentanyl-overdose death of 41-year-old Jade Dreith.

Jade died in 2022 after taking a pill that investigators believe was laced with fentanyl. According to Dreith's sister, Sage Drieth, Jade took a pain pill to help her with back pain, but she had no idea that it was laced.

District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp says justice has been delivered to Jade's family after the first-ever jury conviction in a fentanyl murder trial in the county.
"This verdict is a testament to our steadfast commitment to protecting our communities,seeking justice for victims, and holding accountable those who distribute illicit fentanyl thatleads to death,” Smittcamp said.
Gonzalez remains in custody at the Fresno County Jail and is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 9 a.m. She could face a potential sentence of 15 years to life. ...read more read less
