'The need's there': Madera County Food Bank expands with $50K upgrade

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Madera County Food Bank now has a new home. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the new location on Knox Road in Madera.
"We're just so excited to have it open," said Andy Medellin, former mayor of Madera and project manager fo
r the Food Bank. "I love Madera and what we're doing here in Madera and this vision has now come to fruition."
Upgrade helps Madera County Food Bank feed more people
Medellin said they look forward to helping the residents in need.
"To have a 20,000 plus square foot building that will feed the needs and the residents of Madera county is just heartwarming to me," he said.
The Madera County Food Bank is a nonprofit organization with 60 distribution sites throughout the county that can feed up to 30,000 people and distribute more than 300,000 lbs of food per month.
"I mean, it's been a while coming, and hopefully it's going to help a lot more people that we, you know, than we have before," said Jesus Escanuela, warehouse manager for the facility. "I'm just glad that we're able to help everybody that we can, you know, and the need's there, you know, they have the need, obviously call and we'll fill it for sure."
Funding for the project was made possible by a $500,000 grant from Madera County's American Rescue Plan Act or ARPA funding. ...read more read less
