Rockies will begin televising games on KUSA (9NEWS) beginning in May
Mar 26, 2025
The Rockies‘ television footprint is expanding.
The Rockies and 9News, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate, announced Wednesday that 9News will air 10 simulcast games on KTVD channel 20 during the upcoming season, beginning with the May 23 game against the New York Yankees at Coors Field.
Each of the 10
games will be available for free, over the air to viewers throughout the region, with five of the games also simulcast on KUSA/9News.
Last September, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment and 9NEWS announced a deal to bring Nuggets and Avalanche games to local TV for the 2024-25 season. Under that deal, 20 Nuggets and 20 Avalanche games were scheduled to be aired on KTVD, with several games also simulcast on 9NEWS.
The Rockies will now get similar exposure.
“I’ll say the same thing as when we announced the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche,” said Mark Cornetta, president and general manager of 9News. “It’s a huge win for the community and the fans. It’s a way to make it easier for the fans to access their favorite teams.
“Obviously, the Rockies are a huge fan favorite here, and this is a way to connect with a fan favorite and make it available.”
The Rockies began streaming games on Rockies.TV last spring and there were hopes that games would also be aired on local TV. That didn’t happen last year, but now it’s in place — at least on a limited basis.
“We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with 9News and bring Rockies baseball into more homes across Colorado,” Rockies president and CEO Greg Feasel said in a statement. “Whether it’s streaming, cable, or over-the-air, fans now have more ways than ever to watch Rockies baseball.”
All of the Rockies’ games on 9News and/or KTVD will be televised on Friday nights.
“The Rockies were interested in having those games aired on a consistent game of the week,” Cornetta said. “They are also all Friday home games. That makes it nice for us because we can be over (at Coors Field) during our newscasts leading into the games. It’s a great way to put a bigger spotlight on the games as well.”
Major League Baseball will continue producing all Rockies games and make them available via streaming at Rockies.TV or on cable systems.
The broadcasting crew, headed by play-by-play announcer Drew Goodman and analysts Ryan Spilborghs, Cory Sullivan and Jeff Huson, will remain in place for all Rockies telecasts.
