A Ruscombmanor Township man has been charged with disorderly conduct and harassment after throwing a drink at a family in a Hamburg-area restaurant, Tilden Township police said Wednesday.
Stuart Brooks, 62, is accused of harassing two women and their children at Wendy’s, 15 Dave’s Way, Tilden To
wnship.
Police responded to the restaurant Sunday at 1:38 p.m. after receiving a report of a disorderly male.
Chief William J. McElroy III gave this account of the incident:
One of the victims, a 35-year-old woman, had approached the counter to receive a replacement food item when Brooks accused her of cutting in line.
The woman returned to the dining area, and Brooks walked over and stared at the children and the other woman, 31. She politely asked him to stop and said he was scaring the children.
Brooks then filled a large cup of soda and approached the two adult victims, then told them to shut up.
He was again asked to leave, then threw the soda at one of the women, hitting her in the face and soaking her clothing. He then turned to the other adult victim, who was shielding the children, and threw the remaining soda at them.
A Wendy’s manager de-escalated the incident, and Brooks left.
Later that afternoon, Tilden and state police went to Brooks’ home to interview him.
He said he felt that the woman had cut in line and was talking about him and that he told her, “If you don’t apologize, you’re going to wear this.” He admitted to throwing the soda in her face when she did not apologize. He told the officer that “he did what anyone else would have done.”
The charges against Brooks — two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, one count of misdemeanor harassment by communication and five counts of summary harassment — were filed before Magisterial District Judge Kim L. Bagenstose, Hamburg. ...read more read less
