ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The Albuquerque Isotopes have announced the return of an art and essay project for "Jackie Robinson Night." This initiative aims to honor Jackie Robinson, the first African American man to play Major League Baseball, while giving students a chance to create a reflective
piece on the baseball icon.

Students grades K-12 who turn in either an essay, poem, or piece of art on Jackie Robinson by Friday, April 11 can receive four free, reserved-level tickets to the Jackie Robinson game night on Tuesday, April 15. The Isotopes provided these prompts for the project:
"Why was Jackie Robinson’s impact so important on America?
What inspiration can you draw from Jackie Robinson to break barriers we continue to face today?
Do you have a goal/desire to become the “first” to accomplish something in your life? If so, what is it and why?"
Students can bring those completed assignments to the Isotopes Park Administrative Offices from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, by April 11. Isotopes General Manager John Traub is hopeful this project can be a learning opportunity for local students.
“The impact of Jackie Robinson is vital and it’s crucial for the entire sport of baseball to be a catalyst to keep his legacy at the forefront,” Traub said. “We hope students use this opportunity to learn about Jackie’s impact on our country, both on and off the field, and are inspired to make a meaningful impact on society themselves.”
This project is a partnership with the Black Chamber of Commerce New Mexico, Burque Against Racism and Rude Boy Cookies. ...read more read less
