School board seeking architect for North Summit High School project
Mar 26, 2025
The North Summit School Board earlier this month unanimously voted to issue a request for proposal for an architect to design a new North Summit High School. The current high school, which was built in 1977, hasn’t had any major modifications since its original construction. District officials told
the public last summer that reinvesting in the structure would be more costly than building a new school, and the school board proposed a $114 million general obligation bond to fund the project.Community members immediately spoke out against the bond proposal, though, citing increased property taxes, inflation, poverty levels and other economic concerns. Ultimately, the bond failed with 56% of voters in opposition. Now, the school board is considering two options to fund construction: a second general obligation bond attempt in November or a lease revenue bond, which has a higher interest rate and does not require voter approval.Discussions on specifics are largely on pause for now, however, as the school board works to find a new superintendent following Jerre Holmes’ retirement announcement in February.Despite that, the school board unanimously voted to issue a request for proposal for an architect during a meeting on March 12. The decision doesn’t necessarily indicate the project is substantially moving forward or that construction will begin soon, but it does mean the board hopes to get the ball rolling by hiring an architecture firm and brainstorming design possibilities. The post School board seeking architect for North Summit High School project appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
