NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man climbed through a barbed wire fence and ran toward the Norfolk International Airport airfield Wednesday before being apprehended by airfield operations and Norfolk Airport Authority police, according to an airport spokesperson. The incident happened a little aft er 6:30 p.m., according to airport spokesperson Chris Jones, who said the man was spotted "almost right away" and was isolated and caught quickly. The runway was closed briefly to allow police to get to the scene more easily, and Jones said no aircraft was near the man. Jones said there were two outbound flights that had to wait a few minutes for the scene to clear before taking off, but otherwise, there were no delays of note.
