After a chilly start to Wednesday with some morning sunshine, another weak wave of energy moved in, bringing scattered clouds and a few isolated showers through the afternoon. Even so, temperatures managed to rebound into the low to mid-50s despite starting off near freezing. This unsettled patte
rn isn’t going anywhere just yet, so you’ll want to keep the rain gear close by. We even managed to see a bit of fog across the area to start the day, reducing visibilities at times early.
Shower chances increase again on Thursday as a wave of low pressure forms in the Rockies, pushing a warm front toward the Ohio Valley. While it won’t be a washout, expect scattered rain showers at times throughout the day. Otherwise, a mix of clouds and sunshine will allow for a warmer afternoon, with highs climbing back into the low 60s.
By Friday, the warm front lifts north, and a strong southerly wind will pump in some almost summer-like warmth. Afternoon highs will soar well into the 70s, but with the warmth comes the chance for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. This pattern continues into the weekend, with additional storm chances on Saturday. However, widespread rain is not expected, so there should still be some dry time.
The main focus remains on Sunday, as a strong storm system moves into the region. A developing area of low pressure and a cold front will bring the potential for strong to severe storms late Sunday into Sunday night. While details on timing and intensity are still coming together, the Storm Prediction Center has already highlighted a large portion of the Ohio Valley for an elevated severe weather risk. This is something to watch closely in the coming days, so be sure to check back for updates.
