DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - A local activist group held a pop-up demonstration outside Rep. Tony Wied's district office in De Pere on Wednesday afternoon.
Members of Indivisible Brown County, including co-founder Kevin Welch, called attention to multiple issues ranging from health care to Social Secur
ity.

"This was just supposed to be kind of a pop-up event that we thought would be about 30 people, and I'd say we got about 80 people out here now, so it's a great response that just shows that people are upset about what's going on in our country," Welch said.
Welch said elected officials should be defenders of the Constitution and had a message for Wied and other members of Congress.
"Just to save Social Security, to stop the oligarchy, to stop Elon Musk from dismantling all of our institutions," he stated.
Zachary Heim, who is not a member of Indivisible Brown County, joined the peaceful protest because of what he described as Wied's lack of transparency.
"I just heard about it and thought it's a very worthy cause to participate in because I believe we are currently seeing a completely dishonest assault on Social Security and the American people," Heim said.
Heim also stressed that he wants to see more from Wied, saying the way the government is acting does not represent the values and foundations of the United States.
"My problem with Tony Wied is, please do your job and consider exactly what is going on, because what is going on is completely unprecedented. I'm 68 years old, and I've been following politics for probably 55 years or more," he said.
Welch said the overall goal of the protest was to see Wied take action, make their voices heard, and encourage others to do the same.

In response to the protest, Wied released the following statement:
"Indivisible is a dark money, far-left activist organization that does not represent the interests of my constituents. In addition to our recent tele-town hall, which reached tens of thousands of constituents, my office answers hundreds of calls daily to listen to people's opinions and assist them with their needs. Since the beginning of the year, my office has been able to resolve hundreds of complex constituent cases and has responded to tens of thousands of inquiries. I am committed to working every day with the best interests of Wisconsin's 8th District in mind, and I will always encourage the people of Northeast Wisconsin to contact my office and voice their opinions so I am able to best represent them." ...read more read less
