Local UPS driver, woman arrested in theft scam in Horizon

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A local UPS driver and a woman were arrested for a theft scam and other charges, according to the Horizon City Police Department on Wednesday, March 26.
Jason Zubia, 44, and Monica Almanza, 46, were arrested on charges of theft of property, possession of a controlled sub
stance, and possession of marijuana. Zubia's bond was set at $100,000, and Almanza's bond was set at $35,000.

According to Horizon Police, in February, the department received multiple calls from residents about receiving empty packages or packages that were not delivered at all.
Detectives from Horizon Police reached out to the UPS Security Team to provide information that helped in the investigation.
Zubia was identified as a local UPS driver and had an accomplice, Almanza, according to police.
According to the department, detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 3000 block of Gaston Drive in El Paso.
During the search of the residence, detectives found and recovered stolen property that was still in their sealed boxes and with their addresses, according to Horizon Police.
In addition, officers also found several open and discarded boxes, along with narcotics, according to the department.
Detectives believe there may be more victims in Horizon City and surrounding areas who may not yet be aware they have been affected by the theft scheme.
