(COLORADO) — Governor Jared Polis thanked Colorado Springs' first responders for their response to a grass fire earlier in March. On March 13, the Colorado Springs Fire Department battled two different grass fires, one of which threatened three homes and burned south of Garden of the Gods Road and 30th Street. The fire began that Thursday around 3 p.m., and crews quickly worked to secure surrounding areas and contain the fire. Later that same day, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a 48-year-old man on arson charges in connection to the fire. CSPD said one of the 911 callers who reported the fire stated they had possibly seen the person responsible for starting the fire leave the area. "Thanks to the department's teamwork, the suspect who started the fire was apprehended, and the fire was contained," Polis said.
