BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) - The eyes of the NFL are on Baton Rouge for LSU's Pro Day, including New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. The biggest name in the draft class out of LSU, Will Campbell, did not participate.
However, it still allowed other guys to shine in front of
NFL scouts, including running back Josh Williams, who was not invited to the NFL Combine.
Williams was the star of Pro Day. He posted the fastest 40-yard time at 4.45, which would have been a top-15 time among running backs at the combine. Williams had one chance to prove himself in front of NFL scouts. He certainly did just that.
"It's been a long journey for me in this process of getting ready for this day," said Williams. "A lot of doubts from a lot of people, a lot of people that don't think I can run fast, thinking I'm a 4.6, possibly 4.7, and I just had that fire in me to prove everybody wrong. It's a dream come true. You know, you work hard for eight weeks straight for one day, and you almost put everything on that one day. And it could be stressful. It could be nerve-wracking. But to fight past that fear, to get what you want, is worth it to me."
Williams also posted the highest vertical jump of the day, soaring 42 inches. He joked that he didn't know it was possible he could jump that high. During training, he didn't get to 40 inches, let alone 42 inches.
