Death of Mojave man whose remains were found in 2023 ruled a homicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Coroner's officials say the death of a man whose remains were found on the outskirts of Mojave was a homicide, and the cause of death is undetermined.
17 News asked for an update Wednesday in the case of Timothy Alan Welch, 56, of Mojave, whose remains were found in
November 2023 scattered around an area south of Trotter Avenue, about 7.5 miles east of Lone Butte Road. Leg bones, rib bones, vertebrae and the remains of a hip bone were located.

Welch was identified through DNA processing by the Department of Justice.
Friends of Welch told authorities another man admitted killing Welch at an unknown location near Lancaster or Rosamond, telling them he “took care of the body,” court filings say. The man was later seen driving Welch’s vehicle before it was abandoned, according to the filings.
That person has not been charged in Welch's death, court records show. ...read more read less
