Man arrested in Kings County after copper wire theft

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Kings County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a man after the Rural Crimes Unit started a wire theft investigation into a large amount of recycling copper wire.
On March 11, rural crime detectives and a Kings County District Attorney Investigator sai
d they began conducting surveillance on the man.
Officials say Hugo Estrada Mora was identified after police said several mobile cameras were set up, along with other technology, which allowed them to retrace his movements from days prior.
On March 25, the crimes unit conducted a traffic stop in the Kettleman City area. That is where deputies say Mora was contacted and arrested.
Investigators say evidence of the thefts were located in his vehicle, along with various tools that were used to steal the wire. Mora provided a statement, admitted to taking the wire and clarified several techniques he used to steal the wire.
Deputies say Mora was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of 24 counts of theft of telephone wire, theft of copper wire, and possession of stolen property. ...read more read less
