SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Heads up -- if you’re headed to the Imperial Beach Pier anytime soon, major construction has started back up to reinforce the structure.
This maintenance project is being conducted by the Port of San Diego. Workers are starting to take down a lot of the wooden pieces a
s the are replacing the deck board. This is work that’s going to take most of the week.
Crews replaced the two pilings on the pier back in November.
The installation team intends to keep the pier open but to ensure everyone’s safety, pedestrian traffic will be redirected and sometimes stopped for several minutes at a time.
A lot of locals who come to the pier daily say they’re glad the pier will stay open during the renovations. This includes Robert Ranger, who always takes a stroll on the pier.
The Imperial Beach Pier maintenance project is expected to cost $2.6 million and is expected to be completed by summer 2025. ...read more read less
