Springfield police arrest two suspects, seize sword in connection to carjacking

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two Springfield men have been arrested in connection with a carjacking on Wednesday, and a sword has been recovered by police, which was allegedly used in the incident.
The Springfield Police Department said that at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday, officers receiv
ed a report of a carjacking on the 100 block of Wilbraham Avenue. Upon arrival, the victim said that he was allegedly attacked by two suspects.

He stated that one of the men allegedly swung a sword at him, cutting his hands as he tried to escape his car, and the two suspects then drove away in the car at a high rate of speed. The victim showed the officers lacerations to his hands that he sustained during the incident.
The officers were informed that arrests had been made involving a property damage crash involving the stolen vehicle. Police said that around 2:35 a.m., an unrelated investigation on Cedar Street was occurring in which a car was observed speeding with its lights off. The vehicle swerved and lost control, striking multiple parked cars.
When officers approached the vehicle, both occupants ran away. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Coren Boyd of Springfield, reportedly gave up running due to injuries sustained during the crash and was arrested. The passenger, 18-year-old Jeremiah Patrick of Springfield, was arrested by assisting officers after a foot pursuit.
Officers seized a sword found inside the vehicle, which was then connected to the carjacking case. Both suspects were brought to Baystate Medical Center to be evaluated and treated for their injuries following the crash.
