Conservancy needs approval rights for Treasure Hill open space
Mar 26, 2025
Thursday evening, the Park City Council will consider approving a permanent conservation easement on the Treasure Hill property that the city purchased for $64 million dollars in 2019. This easement has been thoroughly vetted by Summit Land Conservancy and the city’s legal staff over several years
. This conservation easement accommodates the existing ski resort lease. It also addresses the council’s concerns regarding how changes to that lease get reviewed. In order to protect open space, the public recreation access, and the wildlife habitat on Treasure Hill, Summit Land Conservancy needs to have approval rights when substantive changes to the resort uses are proposed. The proposed conservation easement gives the conservancy those rights and explains the basis for the review of uses. Without this provision, the conservation easement is essentially hollow, and the conservancy would not have the ability to preserve the public benefit of this open space.Since 2002, Summit Land Conservancy has been a trusted partner in conservation with the city. This easement is yet another example of the conservancy’s commitment to work with the city to protect the taxpayers’ investment in Treasure Hill.Christina StorySummit Land Conservancy Board Vice President The post Conservancy needs approval rights for Treasure Hill open space appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
